Which PDU to Select for Full Cabinet Colocation

Which Power Distribution Unit should I buy for my Co-location at RackWire.com?  Our Most Popular choice of PDU’s amongst most of our Co-Location Customers is TripLite PDUMV20HVNET in the 30A/208V Flavor.

Questions to Ask yourself are:

  • Should I go with 120V or 230V?  Generally we recommend 230V, as most equipment can handle it these days.
  • Is Remote Reboot Capabilities Needed?

If Remote Reboot Cabailities are needed, Tripp Lite makes a Switched, Metered Rack PDU that give IT managers the ability to remotely monitor PDU power consumption and in-rack environmental conditions, and to turn on, turn off, recycle or lock out power to each individual receptacle.  This product is Tripp Lite Model # PDUMV20HVNET

Another Low Cost option is the Tripp Lite Model PDUV30HV.  We can also lease you one of these models with your Colocation Cabinet for $15/mo if you want to try one out.

What does Metered Power Mean?

RackWire’s new Datacenter offers Metered Power to all Colocation customers.  RackWire’s Enterprise Class Facility, built in 2008, uses revenue grade current and energy reporting on all of our new Liebert High Efficiency Transformers.  This allows our clients to securely log in online and monitor their power usage for their cabinets down to the individual circuit.  You only pay for the power you use, and not a standard ‘full rate’ circuit charge.  This new feature means cost saving to you and your company.  At most facilities if you want three circuits for redundancy, you have to pay for three circuits.  With RackWire, the circuits are free, and you only pay for the power used.  RackWire provides an online customer portal where you can view each individual circuit in real time.

  • Current Amps
  • Circuit Power (Watts)
  • Circuit Energy (kWh)
  • Bandwidth (Mbps)
