iPhone Cloud Server App

RackWire.com now offers iPhone support to access your Cloud Servers. With the new iPhone App you can drill down to the Cloud Server level you get into the details of your server you have the ability to turn the server off or on as well as reboot the server. You can also view CPU and Bandwidth utilization graphs, IP address allocation, and server backup details. It will even let you delete and restore a backup.

The RackWire.com Cloud Server Platform is powered by a Xen hypervisor running on Dell Server Hardware and Cisco Gigabit Networking Equipment all in a N+1 Architecture in our SAS70 Type II Certified Data Center. The Cloud platform supports multiple Operating System versions of 32-bit and 64-bit Windows and Linux virtual machines to be hosted simultaneously. VMs have their own root accounts which can be controlled, configured and managed by you, the customer. To get a hold of this functionality search the App Store for the Onapp Application.

Ubuntu 10.04 GUI Install

If you are running a RackWire.com Ubuntu 10.04 Virtual Server, Ubuntu 10.04 Dedicated Server, or Ubuntu 10.04 Cloud Server on RackWire.com you can install a GUI by using a tool like Putty to SSH into the server to configure their applications. If you are looking to run a Graphical User Interface (GUI) you can follow the steps below to access a GUI on your Cloud Ubuntu Linux Server.

Step 1: Deploy a Ubuntu 10.04 Server with at least 1GB to handle the OS and Processing.

Step 2: Using the Cloud Console log into the server with root / password of the server. Run the following commands on the server:

apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
apt-get install xubuntu-desktop icewm menu
apt-get install tightvncserver
vncserver :2

Step 3: Access the Linux GUI by running VNC (Dedicated IP Address:2), as you cannot connect using RDP as you would with a Windows 2008 Server. If you do not have a copy of VNC, you can download a free copy of Tight VNC Here. You can now access the Ubuntu GUI and install any needed applications.

Could not load file or assembly ‘Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=10.0.0.0……

Have you seen this error before on your website? With the growing use of .Net 4.0 and Visual Studio 2010, many developers are using the built in ReportViewer control to create great looking AJAX based reports in their sites. The only problem is when you then deploy applications with these controls to your web hosting company, you may get the error above. The issue comes from the fact that the dll’s needed to support this control do not get set to have local copies in your project files and may not be present on the server. Luckily there is an easy fix if you host your own server or have a web hosting company who will install the ReportViewer controls on their server. The Microsoft Report Viewer 2010 Redistributable Package can be downloaded and installed on the web server and will immediately fix the error you would have seen before.
